Alabama woman’s experience portends the American Taliban’s rise to power

It is unclear why Americans love war, or why some Americans particularly love wars against other Americans. Despite the horrors of the American Civil War, many of Trump’s acolytes yearn to wage war against other Americans opposed to Trump and his tyrannical style of ruling, but there is a particular bent among his religious right devotees to wage war against women. That is, after all, one of the primary reasons so-called Christians lovingly embraced a confessed sinner like Trump – he pledged to win the war against women by eliminating their constitutional right to self-determination regarding their reproductive health and so much more.

It is a sad state of affairs, but since Trump’s poorly attended inauguration the evangelical extremist cult’s rise to power has resulted in a wave of attacks against women and their constitutional rights.

Those assaults are borne of what the religious right regards as its constitutional religious freedom to put women in their biblical place – under control of religious men. It is also noteworthy that since Trump handed control over to evangelical extremists, his acolytes in the “family values” movement have felt emboldened to take matters into their own hands and forego Trump and Pence bestowing official government authority to control women.

Not too long ago an emboldened “family values” sycophant created a humiliating scene for two women who were legally breastfeeding their infants in public; because doing so offended what is becoming the “unofficial” modesty police.

Apparently, because Trump and Pence are dragging their feet in designating a Taliban-like religious agency to police women’s activities, the “family values” cult is preparing the population for the official modesty police. The breastfeeding “incident” in Minnesota a couple of weeks ago humiliated a breastfeeding mother because a “modest” family values woman was uncomfortable, but at least she was not forced to leave by management. It was not so “easy” for a woman in bible-thumping Alabama who dared wear shorts in oppressive 100 degree heat in the dead of summer.

The incident occurred in a Mobile shopping mall where security guards at The Shoppes at Bel Air are harassing women for wearing shorts. The shopper, Gabrielle Gibson, described on Facebook how she was “harassed” and “abused” by mall security serving as “modesty police” for the “family friendly” management. Ms. Gibson was “kicked out” of the mall because she was wearing shorts “prompting other women to come forward to share their personal stories of abuse and harassment by mall security guards doubling as family values police.”

Ms. Gibson explained that she was shopping when a security guard approached her after “looking at her a** cheeks” and told her she was being evicted for wearing shorts. Ms. Gibson’s “a** cheeks” were not exposed, but that is not the point. According to Ms. Gibson:

“I was literally harassed and kicked out of the Bell Air mall in Mobile, AL today because of what I’m wearing. Apparently grown men couldn’t contain themselves so I get kicked out. Security officer J. Mathis initiated that he was looking at my a** cheeks and it was a problem. Don’t look at my a** then; there’s a thought? As well. security officer Davis and head of security Jim Chavis were extremely rude and completely unprofessional about the situation.

They went as far as to threaten to call a police officer. From what I saw today everyone had short shorties on. I mean come on, its August and 100° outside. I don’t know why I was pinpointed. I’m just disgusted with the behavior of all these people.”

Of course, being residents of the evangelical cult’s second most religious state in America and one Hell-bent on exercising some evangelical religious freedom, the mall’s management denied ever doing anything wrong; they were simply freely exercising their religious freedom to enforce their Puritanical dress code. The Shoppes at Bel Air released a statement in support of a blatant attack on a woman exercising her constitutional right of self-determination regarding clothing. The mall management’s statement:

Given the high degree of importance we place on maintaining a family-friendly shopping environment, our policy requires all of our customers to dress in a manner that reflects our [religious] code of conduct. Anyone who violates this [religious] policy will be asked to change or to leave the premises.”

A perusal of the corporate ownership of the “mall” failed to turn up any known evangelical extremist involvement, so it is apparent, at least to this author, that enforcing a “family-friendly” dress code was under purview of the local bible-thumpers, not the corporate office in New York. Alabama is, after all, the second “most religious” state in the nation and also contains a vile religious freedom amendment that gives veritable impunity to “freely exercise” religion without interference of any state or federal law – such as anti-discrimination laws. It is likely why the mall’s modesty police threatened to summon the real police to officially enforce the family friendly “code of conduct.”

As it should have, the incident drew outrage from women whose only recourse is protesting what was a very public “slut shaming” to enforce some nasty Puritanical malcontent’s “code of conduct.”  A group of “concerned women” organized a protest as a response to Ms. Gibson’s horrible experience at being “slut-shamed”  by modesty police. The concerned ladies are calling their protest the “Bel Air Mall “Daisy Duke” SlutWalk.”

“Ok ladies – it’s time to bring out the booty shorts and crop tops (if you’re feeling it.) One gorgeous young woman was SHAMED and ASKED TO LEAVE because her shorts were “too short.” I have personally worn shorts shorter than what she wore and walked past security and police and no one said one word. It’s summertime. In South Alabama. It’s hot. WEAR WHAT YOU WANT. Don’t allow anyone to shame you for what you choose to wear. We’re banding together to support our sister in solidarity – women’s bodies are not shameful. We shouldn’t be forced to cover up because men can’t control themselves. Bring your ass (literally) and descend on Bel Air with us. Share with your friends! #SistersInSolidarity #StopShaming#WhatIWearDoesntEqualConsent

Now, although this ardent feminist author fully supports the “concerned” women rushing to defend Ms. Gibson and other women’s right to wear what they want, the choice of a name for the protest, “slut walk,” is curious. It plays directly into the narrative the religious right promotes ad nauseam; that women wearing shorts, short skirts, crop tops etc. are sluts.

For dog’s sake, feminists have been screaming about being “slut shamed” for years over how they dress, and sleazy defense attorneys have convinced juries for decades that raped women deserved what they got for “dressing like sluts.” Of course that is not the case, but the last thing women living in a misogynistic society need is other women donning “daisy Dukes” to participate in a slut walk. Women have a difficult enough time living in a burgeoning theocracy – giving the theocrats more ammunition is foolish and dangerous.

It is important to reiterate that this flagrant discrimination against women, and “slut-shaming,” although not unique, is on the rise due to Trump emboldening the faithful to use “religious liberty” to attack women.

It is worth mentioning that the modesty police are not confined to uber-religious states like Alabama. Some Americans may recall that about a year ago Speaker of the House Paul Ryan laid down some modesty rules against women who exposed their shoulders – sleeveless tops apparently violate the House’s Puritanical dress code. In July of last year a female reporter was attempting to do her job and enter the speaker’s lobby when she was told her dress wasn’t appropriate for entry. The offensive dress was of the sleeveless variety and just like in Puritanical America, a woman exposing her shoulders is “inappropriate.” It is also verboten for women to wear “sleeveless tops, sleeveless dresses, open-toed shoes or sneakers.

It is nearly impossible to believe that 21st Century American women are being subjected to Taliban-like abuse at the hands of religious extremists. And make no mistake, these assaults on women’s rights are solely the purview of religious extremists. Whether it is being evicted from a public place for their choice of attire, or being humiliated for choosing to breastfeed in a public place, or being restricted from using birth control because the religious right opposes women having “consequence free” sex, or daring to choose when to give birth; there is a war against women borne of religious zealotry. The religious right loves to demean Muslim adherents for following Sharia law, but they are on a crusade to impose their evangelical version of Sharia on American women under the banner of religious freedom. It would be considered a horrific situation in normal times, but now that the “American Taliban” have two champions running the Executive Department, America’s women are in deep trouble.

It is still a mystery why American men are sitting idly by watching passively as their mothers, girlfriends, wives, daughters, and sisters are subjected to maltreatment by what can only be defined as the American Taliban.  Today the evangelical modesty police are just evicting women from public places for not wearing family friendly attire, perhaps American men will wake up when women in their lives are stoned to death for wearing shorts, or baring their shoulders – it is what occurred under Taliban rule.

U.N. Poverty Inspector Appalled At Conditions in Trump’s America

Over the course of the past few years there was little reporting on the numerous times the United Nations has condemned the one-time “shining city on a hill” that is America. Although Americans believe they live in a veritable Utopia of prosperity and happiness, the U.N., and many of its various committees on poverty, human and civil rights, and democracy has regularly condemned the richest nation on the planet for its treatment of its own citizenry who are either subject to slave-wage conditions, homelessness, or dire poverty. And it is noteworthy that the target of their criticism is either specifically Republicans or their policies.

While touring the globe to investigate extreme poverty, a United Nations official said on Thursday that areas of Alabama are “suffering the most dire sewage disposal crisis of any place he has visited in a developed country”. Philip Alston is the U.N.’s Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights who said after a visit to Alabama that:

It’s very uncommon in the First World. This is not a sight that one normally sees. I’d have to say that I haven’t seen this.

It is noteworthy to mention that the U.N. regards clean water and sewage a basic human right in any country, much less a “developed First World nation,” so this latest shameful revelation will contribute to the UN’s prior criticism of America’s disregard and mistreatment of its own citizens.

The area Mr. Alston was visiting was Alabama’s “Black Belt;” so named for its rich soil.  The Special Rapporteur witnessed an entire community where “raw sewage flows from homes through exposed pipes into open trenches and pits.” He also saw the water supply pipes with holes running “through the fetid area.”

The U.N. official went to Alabama specifically to see for himself how the wealthiest nation on Earth treats its poorest areas with a gross “lack of access to basic services that have plagued poor, mostly African American residents for generations.” Mr. Alston was also concerned about the poor’s struggles to enjoy even basic civil rights that America used to champion around the world.

The Special Rapporteur and his team are in the midst of a 15-day tour of the U.S. to gather information for a scheduled report on poverty and human rights abuses in America to be released next Spring. Mr. Alston took the time to speak with local residents and he told one resident that experiences “raw sewage bubbling up into his backyard” in an area where “residents often fall ill with ailments like E. Coli and hookworm” that is an atrocity to have to live in those conditions. Those conditions also included “unreliable electricity service” to accompany unreliable access to “clean drinking water that has not been tainted by raw sewage;” it is what the U.N. official said represents a “dereliction of duty.”

Mr. Alston made it clear that the U.N. is aware that the poor are living in subhuman conditions due to “the unwillingness of the government to help people with no access to basic services like reliable electricity, clean water and sewage management.” Alston said the purpose of his tour wasn’t to look for reasons to criticize America:

The hope is that we’ll bring attention to [these problems], just like we bring attention to people who are being tortured. There is a human right for people to live decently, and that means the government has an obligation to provide people with the essentials of life, which include power, water and sewage service. But if the government says, ‘oh no, we’re not going to do it,’ and leaves you to install very expensive septic tanks, that’s not how it should work.”

The sad fact of life is that is exactly how it is going to work going forward with Republicans and their corporate thugs running the government. There is a reason Republicans are handing over the wealth of the nation to the wealthy and corporations that goes beyond making them richer; they want to “shrink” the government to eliminate whatever services it provides to the people.

It is precisely what the trickle down effort in Kansas intended, and achieved, and it is why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Kansas Governor Sam Brownback “it’s what we want to do in Washington” when we control the government. And it is why Republicans are willing to keep Trump in the White House; to aid in “dismantling the administrative state;” or what regular people call “the government.” If there is no government, then there are no provisions or protections for the people. That is one of the main goals of Republicans and their money-machine the Koch brothers in “shrinking government;” get it to a size Republicans can “drown in a bathtub.” The impending  Republican tax giveaway to the rich is only the beginning.

Remember, besides adding trillions to the deficit and raising taxes on the poor and middle class, the GOP tax plan, coupled with the Heritage Foundation’s “skinny budget,” drastically slashes spending on every segment of government except the military industrial complex and “the Church.” It does not matter one iota what the United Nations says about “how it (government) should work” or its “obligation to provide the people with the essentials of life.

With a rubber stamp in the White House, Republicans are intent on starving the government to death to enrich the wealthy and corporations and the people be god-damned to Hell. For dog’s sake, if Republicans are taking away healthcare from children, seniors and the poor, there is no way they are going to meet their obligations and give people access to the “essentials of life” like clean water, adequate sewage management, or reliable electrical service.

It is worth noting that in past opinion pieces one thought Republicans would be humiliated, and Congress shamed, into taking action to correct the inequities plaguing America, but the opposite has proven true. The conditions will only get worse and it is not a coincidence that as Republicans gained greater control over the government and spending, the criticism from the United Nations human and civil rights watchdog(s) have increased in frequency and severity.

The UN report in the Spring will get exactly the same coverage from the main stream media as the other reports and condemnations against American civil and human rights abuses against its own citizens; little to none. And Republicans will react precisely as they have in the past and ramp up their Draconian efforts against their poorest constituents to further dirty Donald’s pledge to make America great –  for the filthy rich and their predatory corporations. And sadly, most of the same people who put Republicans in charge of dismantling the government will continue voting for them religiously because god, guns and fetuses.

Nothing To See – Roy Moore’s Pedophilia is Bible Approved

There are some acts that most civilized human beings consider beyond abnormal and one particularly obscene and heinous act is an when an adult male sexually abuses a child; unless they are an evangelical fundamentalist from Alabama. A state where political support for pedophiles is justified according to the Christian bible.

After revelations that Roy Moore sexually abused young girls, the alleged super-Christian doing his god’s will by attacking women and members of the LGBTQ community won praise from Alabama Republicans for modeling his pedophilia on biblical characters. Although it is true some Republicans in Congress were less than enthused that another one of their own is as immoral as their hero in the White House when it comes to sexually abusing women, Moore garnered enthusiastic support from his evangelical Republican home-boys back in Alabama.

Apparently, the thought of a 32 year-old Christian man forcing a 14-year old girl’s hand down his pants is not only acceptable in Alabama, it is a holy act that produced icons of the Christian faith such as John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. Seriously, no wildly imaginative science fiction writer could make this up. The wild fiction is not that an alleged uber-Christian is a pedophile, but that his actions are considered bible approved. These are some seriously sick, twisted individuals and they are running the government.

Alabama’s Republican State Auditor, a vile individual named Jim Ziegler, ardently defended Senate candidate Roy Moore’s sexual abuse of a 14-year old girl and sexual pursuit of at least four other Alabama teens. Ziegler “justified the GOP Senate candidate’s deplorable behavior” by citing examples from the Christian bible and offering proof that they produce good results.

What Ziegler is defending with his bible is what normal human beings consider sexual abuse and pedophilia. It is noteworthy that Ziegler never denied Moore’s guilt and why should he? According to Ziegler, Moore didn’t have sexual intercourse with the 14-year old girl;  he is only accused of  “kissing her, undressing her, touching her over her bra and underpants, and guiding her hand to touch him over his underwear.” Ziegler said:

There is nothing to see here. The allegations are that a man in his early 30s dated teenage girls. Even the Washington Post report says that he never had sexual intercourse with any of the girls.”

Then Ziegler cited scriptural evidence that Moore’s criminal behavior was “nothing to see” and certainly nothing any respectable Christian fundamentalist would ever consider wrong, immoral, or criminal. He claimed, in fact, that Moore’s pedophilia was practiced in the bible as a means of producing some relatively famous Christians. He continued defending Moore saying:

He’s clean as a hound’s tooth. Take the bible. Zachariah and Elizabeth for instance. Zachariah was extremely old to marry Elizabeth and they became parents of John the Baptist.

Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus. There’s just nothing immoral or illegal here.”

Although Ziegler stopped short of saying Moore’s pedophilia was a  holy attribute to be admired because Jesus and John the Baptist, he did the next best thing. Not that it will impact Moore’s assured victory on Tuesday, it appears that like Trump boasting about grabbing women by the vulva (pussy), Alabama voters will overlook sexual abuse and pedophilia if one of their champions promises to continue waging religious war against women and gays.

One Republican county party chairman, Riley Seibenhener, said that “Mr. Moore was not guilty of ‘forcible rape,’” and that “I know that 14-year-olds don’t make good decisions.”

Another party chairman from Bibb  county, Jerry Pow, said he would continue to support Moore:

Even if the candidate had committed a sex crime. I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn’t want to vote for Doug [Moore’s opponent]. I’m not saying I support what he did.

Notice that like the Republican state auditor, Mr. Pow does not deny Moore’s guilt, just that he doesn’t support sexual abuse and pedophilia. He will support Moore no matter what he did, but he didn’t say whether he would change his mind and support pedophilia and sexual abuse because it was scriptural.

It is noteworthy that citing the Christian bible to support sexual abuse is highly selective, and blatantly hypocritical. Republicans, particularly Alabama Republicans, are vehemently opposed to legal and medically safe abortions, and yet right there in the same bible that apparently condones pedophilia, the “loving” Christian god commands his followers to “rip open pregnant women’s wombs;” and he commands it more than once.

One never hears an anti-choice Republican cite the bible when they attempt to ban women from legally terminating a pregnancy because there is no biblical justification for opposing a woman’s right to choose, but it is all “Jesus and John the Baptist” when one of their own sexually abuses a 14-year-old girl and who really knows how many others; only four have come forward.

What these dirty Republicans do know is that it doesn’t matter how badly a candidate acts, including being accused of sexual abuse of minors; the voters will still support them. However, citing their alleged holy bible as a precedent, and justification, to defend one of their most ardent fundamentalist Christian crusader’s pedophilia is beyond the pale. No doubt Alabama evangelicals will flock to the polls to vote for Moore despite being accused of sexual abuse by at least four minor girls simply because it cannot possibly be a crime if it produced a couple of highly-regarded and popular paragons of the Christian religion.

This absurdity founded on the bible is an incredibly dangerous portent of what American women and girls have to look forward to now that the religious right controls all three branches of government. The idea that there are any justifications for an adult male sexually abusing a woman is an atrocity, but it is already gaining acceptance in Trump’s administration. Remember, it was just recently that Education Secretary held closed-door counseling meetings with anti-feminist male groups and then made sexual abuse on college campuses the woman’s fault and rolled back protections because the men’s groups complained they were treated unfairly.

That Moore garnered immediate support after being accused, by four women, of sexual abuse is just more proof that there is an ongoing Republican war on women founded on religion. Whether it is forcing women to be perpetual birth machines, or making them culpable for being raped, or using the Christian bible to justify sexual abuse of a minor, women are being assaulted by Republicans and their fundamentalist base will continue supporting them because Jesus and John the Baptist.

Roy Moore’s Win is a Symptom of the Radical Evangelical Voter Plague

Something happened on Tuesday that epitomizes everything wrong with America, and this isn’t just about some conservative Christian malcontent  or criminal conspirator posing as a politician; it is about a plague in the electorate. The real plague destroying this country is the people who consistently elect lawless individuals who are either employed to do the bidding of special interests over the people, or they refuse to adhere to the laws of the land; particularly “the” law of the land the U.S. Constitution. Alabama candidate for Senate Roy Moore is the personification of every one of those “plagued” voters sick dreams and desires.

Likely, no small number of Americans delighted in the results of Alabama’s special election to replace Jeff Sessions because the wild extremist Trump backed lost. However, no sane American is celebrating bigoted, and disgraced former judge, Roy Moore’s victory. More likely they are dumbfounded that Alabama voters gave a victory to a radical evangelical extremist who had to be removed from the Alabama Supreme Court twice because he refuses to acknowledge that the U.S. Constitution is the law of the land.  Moore acknowledges “laws,” but they are Old Testament laws as interpreted by Roy Moore.

This is kind of the freak-of-nature Alabama Republicans want representing them in the United States Senate after he takes the “so help me god” oath to support and uphold the U.S. Constitution. Moore has taken that oath at least twice in the past and like Trump he violated it with great zeal and even greater support from radical evangelical extremists.

Roy Moore is a Donald Trump, Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz, Mike Pence, Joe Arpaio, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee kind of freakoid encapsulated in one dangerous human being; the kind of human being Alabama Republicans want representing their interests in the U.S. Senate.

He is more evangelical extremist than Pence, Palin, Cruz and Sessions, and as opposed to the U.S. Constitution as Trump, Sessions, Arpaio and Huckabee. Moore is the kind of “politician” more than just Alabama voters are desperate  to see in important leadership positions. What happened in Alabama is a portent of what is happening more often across nation; voters opting for lawless evangelical extremists. It is precisely what happened November past and it appears to be just beginning.

It is stunning, really, that two times in 13 years Roy Moore was removed as Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice because he believes “There is a higher law that we’re bound to recognize [than the U.S. Constitution]. It’s my duty to recognize that.” This is the kind of Republican that more conservatives are flocking to and any American who isn’t horrified is likely ignorant of the threat or a radical evangelical extremist.

When Moore first ran afoul of the Constitution, he not only garnered widespread support among evangelical voters, he was supported by establishment Republicans. One of Moore’s advocates during the humiliating “Ten Commandment fiasco” was then-governor Fob James who came to Moore’s defense and reiterated one of the Moore’s religious arguments that ultimately got him thrown off the bench. Parroting one of Moore’s reasons for refusing to adhere to federal court orders, James said:

To strip the Ten Commandments from the courtroom is a violation of the United States Constitution.” James also “threatened to use the force of arms if anyone tried to remove the Ten Commandments or ‘judge-initiated’ prayers in any of Moore’s courtrooms.”

Moore was finally suspended off the Alabama Supreme Court. But he still refused  to acknowledge that he or his god’s laws do not supersede the U.S. Constitution; or that the Supreme Court is the ultimate arbiter of the law. Moore repeated his lawlessness 11 years later and had to be suspended again; this time permanently for refusing to follow a Federal Court order.

His final suspension was for following Joe Arpaio’s lead and virtually saying “fuck you” to a United States Federal Judge who ordered him to abide by the Constitution and the High Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. It has been less than a year since Alabama’s Court of the Judiciary permanently suspended Moore for his unconstitutional directive to Alabama judges: “stop complying with [legally] binding federal law.”

Moore believes that because Obergefell afforded same-sex couples the same Constitutional equal rights as heterosexuals, Alabama judges could nullify the ruling based on Moore’s religion and assertion that federal courts have no authority to enforce Supreme Court rulings that Alabama bigots’ object to.

In typical evangelical fashion, Moore claimed he was being persecuted and responded to his suspension by Alabama’s nine-member Court of the Judiciary by playing the martyr and attacking the groups he claimed did not have 14th Amendment rights. Moore said:

“This was a politically motivated effort by radical homosexual and transgender groups to remove me as chief justice of the Supreme Court because of [my] outspoken opposition to their immoral agenda.

As the president of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Richard Cohen rightly asserted:

Roy Moore doesn’t know the difference between being a judge and being a preacher. He thinks his religious beliefs trump his obligations under the law, and that’s a dangerous thing.”

It is also a “dangerous thing” that Alabama voters believe Moore is worthy of a seat in the U.S. Senate. The tragedy is that it isn’t just Alabama voters and it’s something that sane Americans ignore at their own peril. Remember, these evangelical extremists like Moore, Pence, Sessions and Cruz completely reject everything in their Christian bible except Old Testament “mean god” edicts. It is almost certainly why Alabama voters gave Moore a victory and a fairly certain Senate seat. If the trend continues, Moore’s victory informs the atrocity in November may have been the warm-up for the horrors to come.

Of course there are always “fringe” lunatics running for office and they certainly have devotees championing their cause, but over the past seven years those fringe candidates have been elected to high office more often than not. Mike Pence, Jeff Sessions, Betsy DeVos, Ted Cruz and many others represent the ‘mildest’ form of radical evangelical extremists. And although Trump is a sinner by biblical standards, he depends on advisors and counselors to put him right with the radical evangelical extremists’ agenda; one he has supported dutifully since his poorly attended inauguration.

It should be a wake-up call to sane voters that the extremist Trump supported in Alabama’s special election was not fanatical, or radically evangelical, enough for Alabama’s Republican base. Roy Moore represents the base. Whether it is his intent to “serve a higher law,” impose religious tests for politicians who aren’t evangelicals, or deny Constitutional rights to non-heterosexuals, Alabama voters wanted another radical evangelical extremists imposed on the government.

The problem is it isn’t just Alabama voters or Trump would not be in the White House with an evangelical cabal running his administration.  Now it appears that cabal will get another radical evangelical extremist and America will take another step closer to theocracy; all while too many Americans are laser-focused on Trump’s Twitter activity.

Evangelicals Rage At Failure To Force Child Rape Victim To Give Birth

In a story that explicitly explains why America’s quickening into theocracy is sheer evil rivaling the religious tyranny under Taliban rule, a pair of Alabama evangelicals lashed out at an appeals court decision and a barely 12-year-old impregnated rape survivor because god and Catholic Church dogmata. A young girl was raped several times by an adult relative and a former director of the legal staff under maniacal Christian Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore, and the director of an evangelical “pregnancy center” held a press conference to publicly blame and shame the now-12 year old child of committing an act of violence.

The anonymous child drew the wrath of the two religious extremists for seeking a waiver to get the result of several rapes (a pregnancy) terminated without parental approval. The pair of evangelicals were even more incensed that an appeals court agreed that the “tween” should not be forced to suffer the lifelong consequences of being repeatedly raped, impregnated, and then have to give birth. If one listens to the evangelical running the COPE pregnancy center, Lorie Mullins, and a Judge Roy Moore acolyte Win Johnson, the child chose to be repeatedly raped and now has to live with the consequences of either being a sixth grade child raising a child, or with the guilt and shame of committing willful murder.

The appeals court overturned a biblical ruling by an “anonymous” county’s district attorney who decided that the fifth grader had to carry that fetus to term and then work it out for herself how to attend the sixth grade in the fall with a newborn in tow. The appeals court noted there was no dispute that girl was impregnated by an adult relative who raped her repeatedly. They also noted that the child and her siblings were removed from her mother’s custody five times and placed in the care of the Department of Human Resources (DHR) because of repeated physical abusive and neglect.

The fifth-grader had to petition the local juvenile court for a legal waiver to have the pregnancy terminated without her abusive mother’s consent, and after hearing testimony from the child and a DHR caseworker, the court determined the circumstances justified a waiver. One wonders what kind of monsters enact laws that force a child to “petition the court” for a waiver after being repeatedly raped, but it is Alabama where one of the evangelicals railing on the court’s and child’s decision claims that it is high time judges and courts start “standing up for god;” not the secular law and certainly not the 12-year-old victim of repeated sexual assaults.

The attorney who lashed out at the secular (read legal) ruling said the appeals court decision was stunning because they ruled that “a 12-year-old was mature enough to murder her own child in her womb.”

Win Johnson must be one of those typical biblically-stupid evangelicals because according to his own bible’s almighty and never erring god, there is no child in any woman’s womb; the fetus becomes “a living being” only after it leaves the womb and draws “the breath of life.” Still, Johnson was irritated with rage that he or no other evangelical got the opportunity to berate and shame the 12-year-old child to impress on her that what she really wanted to do was commit murder. He said:

“Now, nobody has said that to her, I bet you, in any of her counseling. Nobody has explained that to her in its starkest, rawest form, like that. But what if it was, what if she really thought through it, even as a 12-year-old and said, ‘Gosh, I don’t want that on my conscience.’ “

The woman who joined Johnson in railing against the court and the rape victim, Lori Mullins, boasted that she counsels hundreds of pregnant women, including those considering abortion and those after abortions. She said the aftermath of abortion often leads to depression, substance abuse and difficulty with relationships. She also said that a “child entering the sixth grade should not be allowed to take that step.” Here’s a clue for Mullins: a child entering the sixth grade should not be forcibly and repeatedly raped or forced by compassionless evangelicals to carry the result of several violent crimes against her to term.

This incident is not about some evangelical public officials’ opposition to abortion, it is about evangelicals attempting to enforce the Catholic Church’s 1968 dogma on all women no matter if they are forty-two year-old wives and mothers or an innocent child getting ready to enter the sixth grade.

One thing is abundantly clear: these so-called pro-life Christians have no compassion whatsoever, not for the newborn or the soon-to-be sixth-grader. Despite gnashing their teeth and Hellfire and brimstone scare tactics, neither of the pro-life cretins ever considered the plight and life of the 12 year-old child being forced again to submit to the will of adults over “a belief.”   One thing is certain, neither one of the evangelicals offered to pay for and raise the child while the child mother finishes attending grammar, junior and senior high school. It would have been the Christian thing to offer if they were not heartless evangelical bastards.
