There are no winners in Trump’s Iran move – except Netanyahu

Since his poorly attended inauguration, Trump has demonstrated that America can never be trusted to keep its word and as of Tuesday, that Israel is dictating America’s Middle East foreign policy. It was no surprise to anyone that Trump broke America’s word again by pulling out of a multinational agreement with Iran because it prevented the war that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dreams about – America versus Iran.

Trump has made America as untrustworthy as he is by exiting the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Paris Climate Accord and threatening to pull out of NAFTA. And he just recently reneged on the budget deal he signed because it failed to take food and healthcare away from children and other vulnerable Americans. If he disagreed with the budget Congress sent him, then he should have vetoed it, but he didn’t.

At this juncture, no nation, or American citizen, should ever trust this government again because America’s word and commitment to anything is as worthless and deceitful as the villain in the White House. If that were not the case, the United States Congress would do its Constitutional duty and put a stop to Trump.

Trump’s announcement on Tuesday that he would reimpose sanctions on Iran’s oil sector that had been lifted as part of the P5+1 nuclear agreement immediately violated America’s obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Trump claimed that “we cannot prevent an Iranian bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement;” so he deliberately violated the agreement — effectively withdrawing from the “deal.”  What that means is Trump will impose “secondary sanctions” as if the agreement doesn’t exist. And like everything Trump does, it will adversely affect America’s allies as much or more than it does the country that has kept is word by not violating any terms of the agreement – Iran.

The problem with “secondary sanctions” is that they do not directly impact Iran. Instead, they will “punish“ international banks that were doing business with Iran’s oil sector, and cut off access to United States’ markets for third parties that still want to work with Iran because they are complying with “the agreement.”

This “punishment” is all on Trump who is negatively impacting America and its allies to sate the warmonger and corrupt Israeli Prime Minster –  Ben Netanyahu. It is almost certain that Netanyahu had a  waking nocturnal emission when he learned that Trump obeyed his demand to violate America’s obligation under the international deal – all to bring Netanyahu closer to realizing his dream scenario of America waging war against Iran.

As a few experts have noted, since this was an “international” deal involving 6 nations and Iran, Trump reneging on America’s behalf does not necessarily mean the deal is dead. In fact, if Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and China do not reimpose their own sanctions, Iran will still have more access to international markets than prior to signing the agreement. And it is noteworthy that the other nations in the deal have been opposed to Trump’s decision giving Iran even more impetus to stay in compliance with the deal and avoid irritating the five nations that do not violate international agreements to satisfy Israel, America’s warmongers and the all-powerful military industrial complex.

What is curious, and telling, is that Trump did not attempt to present evidence that Iran was not complying with its obligations under the agreement.  That is probably because Trump’s people,  and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have repeatedly confirmed that Iran is complying with all of its obligations under the deal. Unlike Trump’s America, Iran has stayed true to fulfilling its commitment from the outset; a fact the other P5+1 nations have independently verified over and over again. In fact, even the two countries that support Trump’s decision to violate the agreement, Israel and Saudi Arabia, could not come up with any evidence that Iran is violating the deal. Still, Israeli leader Netanyahu celebrated Trump as “courageous” for making an “historic move” by violating an international agreement that was over two years in the making.

Trump claims that according to his “perception of the deal,” all of the provisions are not permanent and some ‘sunset’ in 10 , 15, and 20 years; except that all-important provision forbidding the Islamic Republic from ever developing and building a nuclear weapon. Trump also claims the nuclear agreement does not punish Iran for its ballistic missiles or supporting insurgents in other countries like America has historically done as a matter of course. Trump fully intended to do Netanyahu’s bidding no matter there is no evidence Iran is violating the agreement, and to ensure he does not have to be reminded that Iran is in full compliance, Trump systematically removed members of his inner circle who thought America should preserve a semblance of trust among the world’s nations and stay in the deal.

Trump’s recent termination of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, both of whom thought the US should stay in the deal, was the confirmation that Trump was going to do as Netanyahu demanded and prove that America cannot be trusted. Trump brought teabagger Mike Pompeo and warmonger John Bolton on board because both are renowned Iran hawks who opposed the deal simply because it prevented what Netanyahu wants more than anything; America at war with Iran. Interestingly, less than a month ago Pompeo reported that Iran was in full compliance with the terms of the agreement.

Trump removed the reasonable members of his administration and surrounded himself with yes men to support what is being called “one of the most consequential decisions of his tenure [as an unworthy occupant] in the White House.”

It is a mystery why Trump allows Defense Secretary James Mattis to stay on the job because just last week he defended and praised the Iran deal even as Trump continued to “bash the multinational agreement” as “the worst deal ever made.” Mr. Mattis told a Senate Armed Services Committee that the deal contained provisions with robust oversight on everything Iran is doing to ensure the Iranians could not cheat.

Trump is putting America in a precarious position in global affairs going forward because by now no sane leader can trust the United States ever again; especially now that Israel is officially dictating America’s foreign and war policy as it relates to the Middle East. Netanyahu has made every effort to sabotage the deal both covertly and in plain sight because he wants America to go to war with Iran; and Trump desperately wants Netanyahu to like him. However, when America does goes to war with the Islamic Republic, it will be on dirty Donald Trump, not Netanyahu, and it will be because America violated a multinational agreement, not Iran.

It is as much a travesty that Trump is successfully creating America in his deceitful and corrupt image as he is willfully causing economic distress for America and its allies. As most observers have noted, Trump or his warmongers have no “plan B” if Iran does not stay in the deal with the other nations except  for war. A war the neo-cons have lusted for as long as Netanyahu has asked them to.

There have been myriad reasons to be ashamed of America over the past year-and-a-half, but none of them are remotely as disastrous as knowing America deliberately violated an international agreement as a prelude to another Middle East war. And this one, like George W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq, serves the whims of another corrupt foreign leader who is effectively directing America’s Middle East foreign policy towards the war Netanyahu has coveted for over a decade.

Trump Signs Secret Pact With Israel To “Deal With Iran”

It is no revelation that a fair number of Republicans have dreamed of a “substantial” war with Iran going back to 1979 when the Islamic population chose its own government. Imperialist regimes always have problems when sovereign nations reject foreign domination, and America’s conservatives are still angry the leader they installed in Iran was sent packing and the Ayatollah became Iran’s Supreme Leader. Add to that simmering anger the Republicans’ devotion to executing the demands of a foreigner who dreams of America waging war on Iran and any idea of peace in the region looks bleak at best.

Because Republicans control the entire government, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a devoted puppy in the White House, it was just a matter of time before the Israeli leader exercised his authority to set American Middle East (war) policy. It was something he enjoyed during the Bush administration where he successfully directed George W. Bush  to attack and invade Iraq. He missed having that awesome authority during President Barack Obama’s tenure and it informs his willingness to humiliate himself by pandering to Trump’s narcissism and assuming a man-crush on an honest-to-dog moron.

Now Netanyahu is imposing his will and flexing his American puppet’s muscle and setting the stage for the war Steve Bannon, most Republicans and some Israeli-Democrats want American soldiers to engage in on Israel’s behalf. Trump is an ignorant buffoon who needs a new distraction so he is obviously doing his best to satisfy his Middle East war policy advisor Netanyahu – at least as long as good old “Bibi” continues stroking Trump’s ego.

According to Israel’s Channel 10 News, Trump and Israeli “officials reached a highly secretive closed-door cooperation agreement on how to deal with Iran” a couple of weeks ago.  The “Times of Israel” reported that the “deal” was signed at the White House on December 12 with the specific aim of countering Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. The “agreement” is being touted as “translating Trump’s decertifying the Iran deal into steps [boots] on the ground.

An Israeli official commented on the purpose of the “highly secretive” agreement thus:

“The U.S. and Israel see eye to eye the different developments in the region and especially those connected to Iran. We reached at (sic) understandings (sic) regarding the strategy and the policy needed to counter Iran. Our understandings deal with the overall strategy but also with concrete goals, way of action and the means which need to be used to get obtain (sic) those goals.”

Most of the world believed that any “developments connected to Iran” were adequately dealt with two years ago by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed upon by Iran and the so-called P5+1 nations (America, United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and Germany). Trump and Netanyahu refuse to acknowledge the validity of a major deal with the world’s leading powers and Iran because it did not plan for American military action against the Islamic Republic.

It is important to note that when Trump refused to certify Iran’s compliance with the P5+1 nations, he did so despite confirmation from all the parties involved that Iran was in total compliance with conditions of the agreement. As noted here, even the “Iran nuclear deal’s critics in Congress said it was in the best interest of all parties to stay in the deal” and they were not alone by any means.

For example, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for verifying whether Iran has been in compliance and that organization reported just prior to Trump’s decertification that “Iran has been fulfilling the commitments it entered into” under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). That “official agency” confirmation was in addition to American intelligence agencies, America’s top military brass, Israeli intelligence, and Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary who all verified and assured Trump that “there is no evidence that Iran has violated the terms of the deal.”

Still, no matter how many times he has been told Iran is fully compliant with the terms of the JCPOA, Trump is fulfilling months-long rumors that a war with Iran is in the near future. That Trump made a “closed-door” secret agreement with Israel to “deal with Iran” to “translate decertifying the Iran deal into steps on the ground” is fairly telling about the warmongers’ intent.

Apparently, the rumors that Trump would make a move in October or November to expedite a conflict with Iran were not rumors after all. Decertifying the Iran deal in October and then entering into a secret agreement a mere month later to “deal with Iran” was part of a strategy to start a conflict. Moreover, it appears the strategy has been in the works since before Trump’s poorly attended inauguration.

Remember, Steve Bannon promised very early in Trump’s tenure that America would have to be at war with Iran prior to starting a war in the South China Sea.  It is noteworthy that a war with Iran will not only sate the neo-con warmongers in Trump’s administration, it will satisfy the demands of the military industrial complex for more wars to sell more weapons. However, the primary purpose of decertifying Iranian compliance and making a secret pact is to satisfy Netanyahu’s demand that America wages war against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As a brief aside, it is important to note that Iran has never attacked or invaded any nation in over 240 years; something Israel can never claim in its short 69 year existence. And yet America under Trump and Israel are promoting the Islamic Republic as an aggressor that needs to be “dealt with.

It should not surprise anyone that Trump signed a secret pact with Israel “to deal with Iran.” It is fairly obvious that because the official  P5+1 Nations’ “deal with Iran” did not give Netanyahu the American attack and invasion of Iran he wants, Trump stepped up to do the foreigner’s bidding. Trump wants to show Netanyahu that he will use American military might to “deal with Iran” the same way Israel deals with Palestinian civilians.

Only an idiot doesn’t believe that “deal with Iran” is not-so-subtle code for “start a war with Iran” to assure Netanyahu that with a Republican controlled government, Israel effectively controls America’s Middle East war policy. With a willing sycophant in the White House and an obedient Republican majority in Congress, it appears that going forward Netanyahu will determine which majority Muslim nation America wages war on.

Trump Just Destroyed America’s Credibility and World Leadership

Once again, Trump has sullied America’s good name, and any semblance of trustworthiness it once enjoyed, and was “humiliated” in the process by the world’s leading nations. Trump is renowned for balking on his and his businesses’ dealings, and now he has taken another step toward making America in his own pathetic image. Subsequently, America’s image is so tarnished by Trump that any global leadership America once had vanished as the the world’s leading nations are “stepping over America” and moving forward.

There have been rumors over the past several months that in October or November Trump would make a move to expedite a conflict with Iran; partly to sate the warmongers in his cabal and further enrich the military industrial complex, and partly to fulfill Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s demand for America to wage war against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Trump’s loyalist advisor, Steve Bannon promised early in Trump’s administration that America would start a war with Iran prior to its eventual war with North Korea; Trump is on schedule to make Bannon’s pledge a reality.

Last week Trump refused to certify that Iran was in compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed upon by Iran and the so-called P5+1 nations (America, United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and Germany). It’s the Iran Nuclear Deal that Israel and its representatives in the House and Senate railed against last year. In decertifying Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement, Trump ignored the prevailing arguments by American intelligence officials’ claims Iran was in compliance and that the “accord” was certainly in the United States national security interests.

The action doesn’t scuttle the deal, but it is a first step toward inciting a war with Iran and a sign to the rest of the world that under Trump,  America cannot be trusted and is no longer a world leader.

In what is being touted as “a humiliating moment” for Trump, the other P5+1 signatories reaffirmed their commitment to the Iran nuclear deal. Obviously, America no longer has any credibility in the world and is now relegated to an observer position. A former diplomat noted what foreign leaders already know;

Under Trump  the world will move on and the United States is going to be in the room but we’re not going to have the influence that we had.”

In reaffirming its commitment, Russia issued a damning indictment of America, not Iran, for violating the terms of the agreement in “spirit and letter.” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov said:

Trump administration officials have violated not only the spirit, but also the letter of the JCPOA, as it appears to us with a number of their actions.”

China said it is siding with Russia and the European signatories and is “pushing past Trump’s position on Iran to keep the deal intact.” China understands, unlike the moron in the White House, that in pulling out of the deal with Iran, it “doesn’t look good” and “sets a bad precedent” for any hopes of striking a deal with North Korea to curb its nuclear weapons program. Former Secretary of State John Kerry said yesterday that Trump’s actions “worsens” any hope for a peaceful settlement to North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.

Even the deal’s critics in Congress now realize that it is in “the best interest of all parties to stay in the deal,” but Trump has a war to start in Israel’s behalf no matter how many times he has been told Iran is fully compliant with the terms of the JCPOA.

The organization responsible for verifying whether Iran has been in compliance, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported that yes, “Iran has been fulfilling the commitments it entered into” under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Add to the IAWA verification, American intelligence, America’s top military brass, Israeli intelligence, and Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have all verified and assured Trump that “there is no evidence that Iran has violated the terms of the deal.”

It is noteworthy that Trump certified the deal twice before, but after his Defense Secretary, Jim Mattis, joined the rest of the world reporting directly to Trump that Iran was and has been in full compliance with terms of the deal, Trump said “no they’re not” and decertified Iran’s compliance.

Of course Trump and plenty of congressional representatives from Israel want a war with Iran and it is obvious that decertifying its compliance is a step towards what former Trump advisor Steve Bannon said was America’s next war in the Middle East. That is bad enough, but worse is the idea that no nation on Earth can trust anything America says or any agreement it enters into ever again.

Trump’s actions can’t scuttle a deal among 7 nations on its own, but his intent of levying new sanctions on the Islamic Republic will violate the P5+1 groups’ part of the agreement and in turn allow Iran to restart its nuclear program according to the terms of the deal. On top of that tragedy, North Korea now knows, for certain, that any negotiations, much less an agreement, with the United States will not be honored because there is a dishonest dotard in the White House

America’s image was already damaged by allowing a corrupt con man to enter the White House. And it hasn’t helped that the malcontent Trump has unilaterally insulted every nation’s leader except those ruling Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Philippines. America may have a powerful military, but that is where its leadership and exceptionalism ends. Because although it was once a world leader, with Trump in the White House the world is moving on while America becomes an deceitful outlier without an iota of credibility or leadership in the world.

Trump Aligns America With ISIS Because They Hate Iran

It is fair to assume at this juncture that nothing Donald Trump utters is the truth or has any foundation is pursuing Americans’ best interests. Over the past couple of days Americans learned that no matter what Trump says about ISIS (ISIL, IS, Daesh), it is likely not true. It became fairly obvious when he praised the Saudi Arabia provocative action against America’s ally Qatar, that there was something untoward going on with the Trump that had everything to do with starting a conflict with Iran.

After ISIS terrorists launched two attacks on Iran this week, instead of calling for a more robust and concerted effort from all the players to crush the radicals in ISIS, Trump issued what Iranian officials rightly called a “repugnantremark. Of course he would find a way to enrage the Iranians; they are a nation Trump’s new BFF Saudi Arabia hates with Wahhabi religious passion nearly as much as the Wahhabists in ISIS hates Iran.

Trump’s perilous embrace of Saudi Arabia, a nation steeped in promoting terror attacks around the world, is fundamentally aligning America with ISIS’ Sunnis. It is a dangerous sign that he is “searching for ways to turn the cold peace [with Iran] into a hot war.”  A hot war with Iran is something Trump’s National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and Defense Secretary James Mattis are intent on provoking, and one no small number of Republicans and Israel would love to see begin sooner rather than later.

Trump revealed his ‘warming’ on ISIS this week when after going crazy over the ISIS-inspired attacks in Manchester and London, inciting a vicious Twitter rant, he spent time Tweeting his trip to Cincinnati after ISIS launched two attacks in Iran. A pair of attacks that killed 17 and wounded scores of innocent Iranians and tourists. It is noteworthy that Iran has been fighting tooth and nail against ISIS since its inception, but instead of embracing, even tepidly, what should be a “de facto ally” in the effort to stamp out a terror-driven group of maniacs, Trump made a “repugnant” remark implying that Iran got what it deserved from Saudi Arabia’s friend and ally ISIS.

Alternet’s Jefferson Morley explained that what Trump is doing is putting America in the middle of a long-simmering religious civil war among competing Islamic factions to provoke a war with Iran. Morley stated, “His [Trump’s] method – commit the United States to take sides in the long-standing political struggle between the Sunni and Shia traditions of Islam.” Apparently Trump wants America at war with Iran so badly that he is willing to take sides in a Muslim religious conflict not unlike George W. Bush did in Iraq.

For all intent and purposes, Trump is following in George W. Bush’s footsteps that aided in the creation of ISIS in the first place. Saddam Hussein’s regime was aligned with Sunni Muslims that America helped drive out of Iraq into Syria to become ISIS. In doing so, Bush elevated the Iran-backed Shias in Iraq that enraged Saddam’s Baathists to create ISIS in Syria and further disrupt the region in their attempt to take back Iraq. It is never a good idea to become involved in a centuries-old religious war between rival factions and yet Trump is doing just that; all to provoke a conflict with Iran.

In his “repugnant” slight against Iran, Trump implied that every nation that suffers ISIS-inspired terror attacks are “states that sponsor terrorism.” He said in a statement about the two terror attacks in Tehran:

We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote.”

What Trump is not-so-subtly implying is that the people killed and injured in ISIS-inspired attacks in Manchester, Paris, New York, San Diego  and London all fell victim to “the evil they promote;”  because they are “states that sponsor terrorism?” Seriously, those are Trump’s words, not this author’s.

It is also noteworthy that Iran is not a state sponsoring terrorism, but Saudi Arabia certainly is. In fact, since 2000, over “95 percent of terrorist casualties worldwide have been inflicted by Saudi-influenced militants.” Trump’s reason for a policy embracing Saudi Arabia, and by extension its cohort in ISIS against Iran, is based on a lie that Iran is a terrorist state.

Trump is working hard to instigate another conflict in the Middle East by aligning America with Saudi’s theocratic dictatorship and “its international brigade of Sunni foot soldiers, known as ISIS.” Remember, ISIS militants adhere to, and are devotees of, the Saudi fundamentalist Wahhabist Islamic tradition that “abhors Shiism, hates democracy and forbids women’s rights;” something Iran supports. Experts on Islam claim that “ISIS loathes the [Shia] heretics of Iran even more than it despises the infidels of the West.” And, since Trump wants to start a war with Iran, he is embracing ISIS by supporting its greatest sponsor Saudi Arabia.

Trump claimed, and continues claiming, that his close ties and embrace of Russia is to enlist their aid in a concerted war effort to defeat ISIS; that is a blatant and filthy lie. Iran has been battling ISIS as long as America or the Syrian government, and yet Trump is aligning America with ISIS’ primary sponsors, Saudi Arabia because the Wahhabist Saudis hate the Iranian Shias as ardently as ISIS. This is not a secret and something Trump and his anti-Iran hawks have known for years.

America is already mired in several wars in the Middle East, but none of them involve Iran and it is something Israel, no small number of neo-con Republicans, the military-industrial complex, and Saudi Arabia are hoping Trump can deliver. He took a big step towards handing warmongers the conflict they’ve lusted after since George W. Bush first invaded Afghanistan, and then Iraq, but it is questionable if they believed Trump would embrace ISIS until now.

Whether Trump’s base or his Republican cohort like to hear it or not; when Trump aligned America with the ISIS-sponsoring Saudi Arabia because they both hate Iran, he did more than just “give ISIS a pass.” He embraced them along with their greatest supporter Saudi Arabia and all but guaranteed America’s involvement in yet another Middle East war.
