Trump Signs Secret Pact With Israel To “Deal With Iran”

It is no revelation that a fair number of Republicans have dreamed of a “substantial” war with Iran going back to 1979 when the Islamic population chose its own government. Imperialist regimes always have problems when sovereign nations reject foreign domination, and America’s conservatives are still angry the leader they installed in Iran was sent packing and the Ayatollah became Iran’s Supreme Leader. Add to that simmering anger the Republicans’ devotion to executing the demands of a foreigner who dreams of America waging war on Iran and any idea of peace in the region looks bleak at best.

Because Republicans control the entire government, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a devoted puppy in the White House, it was just a matter of time before the Israeli leader exercised his authority to set American Middle East (war) policy. It was something he enjoyed during the Bush administration where he successfully directed George W. Bush  to attack and invade Iraq. He missed having that awesome authority during President Barack Obama’s tenure and it informs his willingness to humiliate himself by pandering to Trump’s narcissism and assuming a man-crush on an honest-to-dog moron.

Now Netanyahu is imposing his will and flexing his American puppet’s muscle and setting the stage for the war Steve Bannon, most Republicans and some Israeli-Democrats want American soldiers to engage in on Israel’s behalf. Trump is an ignorant buffoon who needs a new distraction so he is obviously doing his best to satisfy his Middle East war policy advisor Netanyahu – at least as long as good old “Bibi” continues stroking Trump’s ego.

According to Israel’s Channel 10 News, Trump and Israeli “officials reached a highly secretive closed-door cooperation agreement on how to deal with Iran” a couple of weeks ago.  The “Times of Israel” reported that the “deal” was signed at the White House on December 12 with the specific aim of countering Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. The “agreement” is being touted as “translating Trump’s decertifying the Iran deal into steps [boots] on the ground.

An Israeli official commented on the purpose of the “highly secretive” agreement thus:

“The U.S. and Israel see eye to eye the different developments in the region and especially those connected to Iran. We reached at (sic) understandings (sic) regarding the strategy and the policy needed to counter Iran. Our understandings deal with the overall strategy but also with concrete goals, way of action and the means which need to be used to get obtain (sic) those goals.”

Most of the world believed that any “developments connected to Iran” were adequately dealt with two years ago by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed upon by Iran and the so-called P5+1 nations (America, United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and Germany). Trump and Netanyahu refuse to acknowledge the validity of a major deal with the world’s leading powers and Iran because it did not plan for American military action against the Islamic Republic.

It is important to note that when Trump refused to certify Iran’s compliance with the P5+1 nations, he did so despite confirmation from all the parties involved that Iran was in total compliance with conditions of the agreement. As noted here, even the “Iran nuclear deal’s critics in Congress said it was in the best interest of all parties to stay in the deal” and they were not alone by any means.

For example, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for verifying whether Iran has been in compliance and that organization reported just prior to Trump’s decertification that “Iran has been fulfilling the commitments it entered into” under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). That “official agency” confirmation was in addition to American intelligence agencies, America’s top military brass, Israeli intelligence, and Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary who all verified and assured Trump that “there is no evidence that Iran has violated the terms of the deal.”

Still, no matter how many times he has been told Iran is fully compliant with the terms of the JCPOA, Trump is fulfilling months-long rumors that a war with Iran is in the near future. That Trump made a “closed-door” secret agreement with Israel to “deal with Iran” to “translate decertifying the Iran deal into steps on the ground” is fairly telling about the warmongers’ intent.

Apparently, the rumors that Trump would make a move in October or November to expedite a conflict with Iran were not rumors after all. Decertifying the Iran deal in October and then entering into a secret agreement a mere month later to “deal with Iran” was part of a strategy to start a conflict. Moreover, it appears the strategy has been in the works since before Trump’s poorly attended inauguration.

Remember, Steve Bannon promised very early in Trump’s tenure that America would have to be at war with Iran prior to starting a war in the South China Sea.  It is noteworthy that a war with Iran will not only sate the neo-con warmongers in Trump’s administration, it will satisfy the demands of the military industrial complex for more wars to sell more weapons. However, the primary purpose of decertifying Iranian compliance and making a secret pact is to satisfy Netanyahu’s demand that America wages war against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As a brief aside, it is important to note that Iran has never attacked or invaded any nation in over 240 years; something Israel can never claim in its short 69 year existence. And yet America under Trump and Israel are promoting the Islamic Republic as an aggressor that needs to be “dealt with.

It should not surprise anyone that Trump signed a secret pact with Israel “to deal with Iran.” It is fairly obvious that because the official  P5+1 Nations’ “deal with Iran” did not give Netanyahu the American attack and invasion of Iran he wants, Trump stepped up to do the foreigner’s bidding. Trump wants to show Netanyahu that he will use American military might to “deal with Iran” the same way Israel deals with Palestinian civilians.

Only an idiot doesn’t believe that “deal with Iran” is not-so-subtle code for “start a war with Iran” to assure Netanyahu that with a Republican controlled government, Israel effectively controls America’s Middle East war policy. With a willing sycophant in the White House and an obedient Republican majority in Congress, it appears that going forward Netanyahu will determine which majority Muslim nation America wages war on.

Armageddon Is Why Evangelicals Cheered Trump’s Jerusalem Speech

For normal people, the concept of sitting in safety and watching an event that wipes out most of the Earth’s population is certainly nothing to be excited about or celebrate. But no-one in their right mind has ever labeled evangelical fanatics anything remotely resembling normal people. On Friday during a Trump event and as a welcome to Florida, a Republican state senator gave an almost uneventful “introductory speech” for the Oval Office crook, and then he incited the audience to religious zeal with a statement that is beyond the pale, but typical for America’s theocrats.

The Florida Republican, Doug Broxson, represents Florida’s panhandle and he obviously knew his audience well because he gave them something horrific to cheer about and they delivered. Broxson said:

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I heard about Jerusalem — where the King of Kings [wild applause] where our soon coming King is coming back to Jerusalem, it is because President Trump declared Jerusalem to be capital of Israel.”

Ignoring the absurdity, audacity and danger of a foreigner “declaring” where a sovereign nation’s capital is, and the sovereign nation celebrating the intrusion into is “sovereignty,” there is a disturbing aspect of Broxson’s religious declaration.

There are millions of Trump supporters praying for, and highly anticipating, what a highly-respected theologian labeled the “climax of human history” in a globally devastating war. It doesn’t matter whether sane people believe the biblical prophesy of a global apocalypse or not, there are a very significant number of people within Trump’s administration, and likely all of his most fanatical evangelical supporters, who not only believe in “End Times” destruction, they want it to come tomorrow. And they will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

These people are inherently evil because they expect to be “raptured” away and given a “heavenly” seat to witness the extermination of humanity in a global god-war. That war, the dreaded “Armageddon,” will end in global conflagration that the Christian bible claims will occur around the time the faithful “rebuild the Temple” in Jerusalem. This is exactly why there were evangelical celebrations at Trump designating the city that is Israel’s new capital.

A little background on Broxson may shed some light on why he celebrated the idea of the new Israeli capital that leads to global devastation, the end of human history, and the extermination of human beings unwilling to bend to the will of the biblical god. And yes, even “regular Christians” have to admit that their holy book describes the end of non-compliant humanity at the biblical End Times.

Broxson attended a private Christian university with an embedded seminary located in Springfield, Missouri. The “Evangel University” is affiliated with the Assemblies of God Christian denomination that seriously believes End Times prophecy and looks forward to Jesus’ return to lay waste to the non-compliant in a globally devastating war.

Broxson is obviously not alone in his glee at Armageddon and that anticipation is widely shared among Trump’s religious supporters. That is particularly true for Trump’s most trusted “spiritual advisor” Robert Jeffress who believes the biblical “End Times” prophecy is the immutable word of god. Jeffress celebrated Trump “officially” designating Jerusalem as Israel’s new capital because it is where Jesus is rumored to return to wipe out evil. He said in a statement:

It is the place where Jesus, a Jew himself, was crucified and where he was resurrected. It is the place where he will set foot again on earth at his second coming.

According to theological scholar Dr. Diana Butler Bass, there is a reason, although a damn bizarre one, why recognizing Jerusalem is so crucially important to evangelicals lusting for “the apocalypse” and the end of the world. Ms. Bass said, and anyone familiar with the psychedelic book of Revelation is aware, that Trump’s announcement was important because “rebuilding the Temple” in Jerusalem “sparks the events of Revelation and the End Times.

Ms. Bass said:

Of all the possible theological dog-whistles to his evangelical base, this is the biggest. Trump is reminding them that he is carrying out God’s will to these Last Days. They’ve been waiting for this, praying for this. They want war in the Middle East. The Battle of Armageddon, at which time Jesus Christ will return to the Earth and vanquish all God’s enemies.”

It is important to note, and a point Bass warned was a real danger, is that for the evangelical fanatics supporting Trump, including Pence, Sessions,Ted Cruz, Roy Moore and countless other of the “frighteningly devout,”  Trump’s decision will hasten the “climax of history” and expedite their trip to proverbial Heaven to watch humanity’s destruction.

Professor Bass continued:

Trump is taking them there. To the promised judgment, to their sure victory. The righteous will be ushered to heaven; the reprobate will be banished to hellfire. People believe this. Really believe this. Have given their lives to these ideas, sing about them in their churches, evangelize others, teach them in Sunday schools. And, this morning, with the news of Jerusalem, these people are ecstatic. This is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. And Donald Trump is not only acting on a campaign promise, but enacting a theological one.

They believe that Donald Trump is God’s instrument to move us closer to the Rapture, the Judgment, and the End. Because to them, that’s actually the beginning — the beginning of their reward and heavenly bliss.

What matters is that Jesus comes back in Judgement. To these sorts of Christians, that Judgment is the only true peace. Everything is phony, deceptive, even evil. Millions of American Christians believe all this. Millions of Trump voters. Sacred history is unfolding right now because of Donald Trump and God. They’ve based their faith, their identity, their purpose, their eternal lives on these ideas. Trust me. There’s no arguing with any of it.”

It is likely that “regular Christians” are as appalled at cheering for alleged “planet-wide”  destruction only possible in a biblical fantasy story, as non-believers. But Trump’s evangelical fanatics are as far from being “regular Christians” as Earth is from the edge of the observable universe; so this is not an indictment of “all Christians” or “using a wide brush” to portray all Christians as fanatics.

Even the Israeli media outlet Haaretz recognized that Trump’s “Jerusalem declaration” was driven by “evangelical forces” as well a to please Netanyahu. Only an idiot believes the declaration had anything to do with establishing Middle East peace. It has everything to do with inciting Muslims to violence, possibly to initiate the End Times to “bring on Armageddon” like so many evangelicals yearn for.

At this point no American should be confused about why “the faithful” support  a consummate sinner like Trump and it is apparent it is not all about abortion. The religious right has even started an organization, “POTUS Shield” to protect what evangelicals claim “is the anointed by god” so he can fulfill god’s will and bring about the End Times. Trump fulfilled his godly role by designating Jerusalem as Israel’s new capital and sane humans await the impending violence in response to another American’s interference in the Middle East.

For Trump’s evangelical supporters, that “interference” and impending violence is what they pray for because they are certain it is what god wanted Trump had to do to force the biblical destruction they get to watch from on high. If America was a secular democracy and not in the clutches of a seriously demented group of evangelicals, this entire story would be amusing. But it is not funny and it is certainly nothing for civilized human beings to celebrate.

Congress to Criminalize Speech Not Supporting Israeli Aggression

As some Americans may be aware, the nation of Israel has proceeded with an expanding occupation of Palestinian territories that America tacitly supports while the rest of the civilized world is appalled at the inhumane actions. And, in this particular crusade, inhumane is a gross understatement.

Since America under Trump refuses to pressure Israel into joining the civilized world and stop its encroachment and terrorizing of the Palestinian people, the rest of the world is engaged in a campaign known as BDS to encourage Israel through economic sanctions to change its aggressive  and inhumane ways. Remember, it was just recently that America warned the United Nations Human Rights Commission that if it did not stop, immediately, criticizing Israel for terrorizing the Palestinians, Trump’s America would leave the organization. Trump’s America loves aggression towards innocent and defenseless Muslim populations.

Now, members of Congress are working for Israel to eliminate the First Amendment’s Freedom of Speech provisions for any American who dares support the world’s attempt to bring Israel into compliance with civilized society. The bill currently before Congress is an Israeli-inspired response to any American who supports, calls for, or requests information about the BDS campaign to put economic pressure on Israel “to withdraw from lands it occupied in 1967, end its [illegal] occupation of Palestinian territories, dismantle its illegal settlements in the West Bank, and allow Palestinians in exile to return to their homeland.”

BDS stands for “boycott, divest, and sanction” Israel for its unrelenting militaristic expansion into Palestine. Instead of using their “freedom of speech” to convince other Americans why Republicans think economic sanctions against Israel’s occupation and encroachment is wrong, and why Israel’s takeover of Palestinian land is godly and right, members of Congress supporting the bill want to criminalize opposing views – by abolishing any speech not supporting Israel’s illegal expansion into Palestine.

The so-called “Israel Anti-Boycott Act” is legislation that:

Prohibits Americans from requesting the imposition of any boycott by a foreign country against a country which is friendly to the United States and from supporting any boycott fostered or imposed by an international organization [United Nations], or requesting imposition of any such boycott, against Israel.”

That patently unconstitutional bill prompted the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to send a letter to Congress demanding a halt to legislation “denying freedom of speech” to any American advocating for, or simply “requesting information about,” any kind of boycott of Israel.

If any American does exercise their right to free speech, the bill calls for penalties  including up to “20 years in prison and fines between $250,000 and $1 million;” simply  for advocating for, or even requesting information about, a boycott of the state of Israel.

Some Americans might recall that Republicans went ballistic over an attempt to overturn Citizens United they claimed was a dirty filthy un-American attack on the First Amendment’s free speech provision. In Republicans’ minds, free speech is sacrosanct and cannot be challenged if the speech is in the form of tens-of-millions of corporate dollars for Republican candidates, but it is punishable by serious terms in federal prison and ungodly fines if the speech entails calling for sanctions against Israel.

The bill’s sponsors epitomize hypocrisy on free speech. For example, in 2014 Ted Cruz (R-TX) railed against attempts to overturn Citizens United saying:

“Typically, when Americans hear that members of the Senate are proposing repealing the free speech protections of the First Amendment, the usual reaction is a gasp of disbelief. Could we really have entered a world so extreme that our common ground no longer even includes the First Amendment of the Constitution?”

And in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Cruz wrote:

Speech is more than just standing on a soap box yelling on a street corner. For centuries the Supreme Court has rightly concluded that free speech includes writing and distributing pamphlets, putting up billboards, displaying yard signs, launching a website, and running radio and television ads.”

One of Cruz’s Texas cohorts, Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn, said:

I guarantee that none of my constituents suggested we need to repeal the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.” And then he claimed the overturn Citizens United amendment was:

A vote to silence them. Tell them to sit down, be quiet, we are in charge and in control.”

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) is also a co-sponsor of the bill to muzzle citizens’ voices and in 2015 joined Cruz and Hatch in railing against overturning Citizens United on Free Speech grounds. He said:

Supporters of this radical proposal apparently believe that freedom itself is the problem. That view is contrary to the most fundamental principles of this republic, and incompatible with a free society. Freedom is not the problem, it is the solution.”

Republican Senator Pat Roberts (KS) concurred with Cruz, Hatch, and Cornyn that overturning Citizens United was an attack on free speech and added that it was an assault on democracy. He said:

In our system of government, all voices have the right to be heard. The First Amendment gives them that right. … We have a system that allows all voices to be heard, even those that oppose the majority. That is not the antithetical to democracy; it is the essence of democracy. So it is time, it seems to me, to stop pretending that allowing more voices to be heard somehow poses a danger just because we don’t like what they are saying.”

Another Republican attacking the attempt to overturn Citizens United, Senator Deb Fischer (NE) actually told her Senate colleagues that:

Over the preceding five weeks visiting constituents, not a single Nebraskan told me to go back to Washington and vote to limit free speech.” She said overturning Citizens United was “gutting the First Amendment and the principles of free speech that have endured since the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.” And that “it would actually diminish democratic participation and decrease freedom.”

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) complained that overturning Citizens United was tantamount to:

Amending the Bill of Rights. It would amend one of the most important of those rights — the right of free speech. The First Amendment provides that Congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech.”

Of course Grassley is right; the First Amendment does indeed provide that “Congress shall make no law abridging free speech.” And yet that is precisely what he and the other four co-sponsors of the “Israel Anti-Boycott Act” are calling for because their loyalty to Israel’s inhumanity supersedes their phony respect for the First Amendment.

There are really two lessons for Americans here. First, Republicans only care about the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, when it serves their purposes. And second, that they have no qualms severely punishing Americans who exercise their First Amendment freedom of speech by daring to oppose Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

Trump’s Incompetent Big Mouth Put An Israeli Agent’s Life At Risk

Employers typically avoid hiring an employee that is incompetent because they have the foresight to go through a careful vetting process most employees are unaware of. Incompetence, like ignorance, can kill a business depending on the nature of services or products they offer, but when a customer’s safety is put at risk due to incompetence, any competent business owner will terminate a careless employee if for no other reason than avoiding lawsuits. It may not seem to be the case, but there are more professions and jobs that can have an adverse effect on citizens’ health and lives than one might think.

Of course an incompetent mechanic who forgets to tighten a wheel’s lug nuts or connect a brake line could be liable for material damages and physical injuries in a car crash when the brakes failed or the wheels fell off. It is a similar situation when a medical professional’s incompetence leads to an unnecessary death whether that death is from a sloppy surgeon or careless nurse administering the wrong medicine. In those cases there are laws and the judicial system to hold the incompetent professional accountable. There is no such thing for a president when Republicans control all three branches of government and it is why Trump will get away with endangering the life of a close ally’s agent.

As a few people have noted, when incompetent and ignorant Trump shared Israel’s highly classified intelligence with Trump’s close friends in the Kremlin, he put at great risk the Israeli operative who infiltrated ISIS and provided the intelligence Trump may as well have made public. ABC News reported that according to several current and former American officials, when Trump disclosed classified information to the Russians, “he put the life of a spy placed by Israel inside ISIS at risk.”

It is irrelevant what the Trump told the Russian officials last week, even if it was because he is compromised and indebted to Vladimir Putin to divulge U.S intelligence secrets. What matters is that he threw America’s closest ally in the Middle East under the bus and threw one of their operatives to the hungry lions in ISIS. Perhaps the next time American intelligence officials warn Israel, or any of our allies, to be particularly careful about sharing information with the new administration for fear of exactly what happened, they will pay closer attention. Intel officials in the Obama Administration did warn the Israelis and now one of their spies is likely compromised.

However, it is not that the Israelis failed to take what they surmised were the necessary precautions in telling the intelligence community to keep the highly-classified intel as secret as humanly possible, including not sharing it throughout the government; something all reporting says they certainly did. But they underestimated Trump’s incompetence and instead of sharing it throughout the government, in a fit of braggadocio he shared it with a hostile foreign adversary that happens to be a very close ally with Israel’s sworn enemy Iran.

Israel has repeatedly warned American officials that it would put a screeching halt to access to such sensitive information if it were to be shared too widely, according to one former American official. Besides putting the life of an Israeli spy at risk, there is justifiable fear that Russian intelligence will easily  determine exactly how the information was collected  and be able to easily disrupt Israel’s  espionage efforts. The Russians don’t even have to waste one nano-second determining where the information was collected because Trump told them.  Part of that fear on the part of Israel is Russia’s very close ties and allegiance to Iran. It is something that any competent government official is already aware of and it is added proof that Donald Trump is not only a corrupt criminal, he is either  the epitome of incompetence or is deeper in debt to Vladimir Putin than anyone can possibly imagine; likely it is a combination of the two.

As many commentators have noted, of course a president can share whatever information they want with impunity, but this is a different story and more than just a breach of intelligence sharing protocol; especially when it compromises America’s staunchest ally in the Middle East and puts the life of their agent at serious risk. As the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) noted:

The White House has got to do something soon to bring itself under control and in order. It’s got to happen. To compromise [an intelligence] source is something that you just don’t do, and that’s why we keep the information we get from intelligence sources so close as to prevent that from happening.”

Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia) is vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and he had a similar assessment to Senator Corker’s. He said on Twitter: “This is a slap in the face to the intel community. Risking sources and methods is inexcusable, particularly with the Russians.”

The ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee was not nearly as diplomatic as either Senator Corker or Warner. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) lashed out at dumb Donnie and said:

President Trump’s recklessness with sensitive information is deeply disturbing and clearly problematic. The president of the United States has the power to share hare classified information with whomever they wish, but the American people expect the president to use that power wisely.”

In this case, Trump’s recklessness not only put Israel’s intelligence-gathering abilities at risk, his need to boast put an Israeli operative’s life at risk by revealing highly-classified intelligence, and the location from where it was collected. One can only imagine the Israelis, particularly their powerful spy agency Mossad, are fuming and carefully considering what method of retribution to impose on Trump, and it is likely that very few people on the planet could possibly blame them.

There are many theories floating around about what drove Trump’s latest dangerous action; is he compromised by Putin, did his ego push him to boast he knew a secret few in the government were aware of, or is he as incompetent as he is corrupt; something a growing number of Americans have finally come to realize. Regardless if it is incompetence or corruption, Trump’s latest action seriously jeopardized America’s standing and partnerships with each and every one of its intelligence gathering allies around the world to either impress or repay Vladimir Putin.

White House Condemns Israel For Lying To Secure $38 Billion In Military Aid

It’s probably the case that every American has experienced someone who claims to be a close friend, smiles and shakes your hand warmly as they await a generous gift. However, once the gift is secured, that so-called close friend turns around and betrays their so-called friend’s trust. That scenario played out over the past two weeks when, after securing a generous $38 billion in military aid, Israel betrayed its “friendship” with America and violated an agreement by doing the opposite of what it pledged not to do less than two weeks ago.

This week the Obama Administration condemned the Israeli government for its plan to create a new Israeli settlement on the West Bank. The announced plan came less than three weeks after America signed off on a very lucrative military aid package to its “good friend” Israel. In an unusually, but warranted, harsh statement, the State Department officially and “strongly condemned” Israel’s expansion plan claiming it violated the Jewish state’s pledge not to construct new settlements. The move also “ran counter to long-term security interests Israel” said it sought to protect the military aid package’s delivery. Apparently, Israel’s word was only good until it was guaranteed that America would deliver the $38 billion in military aid.

For American officials, the problem is that Israel is establishing a string of settlements which the Obama Administration, and any reasonable person, understands is an effort to “effectively divide the West Bank and make the possibility of a viable Palestinian state more remote,” if not impossible. In fact, the State Department said this latest settlement is “deep in the West Bank, far closer to Jordan than to Israel.”

The announcement was a particularly offensive slap in America’s face because President Obama had just met with Israeli Prime Minister and Republican Party operative Benjamin Netanyahu during a United Nations meeting. It was a meeting where the President expressed his deep concerns about Israel’s continuing settlement construction because they undermine any possibility of a peaceful resolution to the long-simmering conflict; a conflict that could be solved if Israel would concede that the Palestinian people have every right to exactly what America provided Israel; a homeland. It is said that the announcement infuriated President Obama after signing off on the $38 billion amid assurances from Netanyahu that Israel really sought peace and supported the storied two state solution

In a statement, the deputy spokesman for the State Department, Mark Toner said,

“It is disheartening that while Israel and the world mourned the passing of President Shimon Peres, and leaders from the U.S. and other nations prepared to honor one of the great champions of peace, plans were advanced that would seriously undermine the prospects for a two-state solution that he so passionately supported.”

Experts claim that the Administration’s harsh words signal rekindled speculation that the President might “lay down guidelines for a proposed peace agreement” between Israel and the Palestinians before his tenure in office is over; “either in a speech or, less likely, by backing a resolution at the United Nations Security Council.” According to a former Obama Administration special envoy for an Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiated settlement, Martin S. Indulging,

“The administration has been escalating its rhetoric in opposition to West Bank settlement activity for more than a year. The government of Israel doesn’t seem to be listening. At a certain point, the administration may well decide that there needs to be consequences for what it now sees as an effort to close off the two-state solution.”

Despite the outward talk from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that the Jewish state is deeply interested in a two-state solution and peace with Palestinians who are cordoned off on an American-styled Indian reservation, the Republican operative has no intent on seeking peace. It isn’t surprising either because according to the official Republican Party platform, any idea of ever supporting a two state solution and peace in the region was rejected. However, there was no rejection or opposition to handing Israel a whopping $38 billion in military aid that Israel will use against sequestered Palestinians.

This Obama Administration’s condemnation of yet another Israeli plan to prohibit a two-state solution was not only well-warranted, it was long overdue. It was particularly necessary since President Obama had just met with Netanyahu privately and raised concerns about Israeli’s continued settlement construction and that the President and peace-loving people regard as its “corrosive effect on the peace process” that Netanyahu assured the President was not an issue; at least until he secured a lucrative $38 billion military gift from Americans. It was, no matter how one assesses it, a betrayal by “a friend;” or as the Obama Administration labeled it, they were misled.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest commented about being misled,

“We did receive public assurances from the Israeli government that contradict this announcement. I guess when we’re talking about how good friends treat one another, that’s a source of serious concern as well.”

After eight years of betrayal, maybe the real concern should be that Israel is only America’s “good friend” as long as it continues receiving billions in military aid. It is a practice that has to stop until Israel agrees to seriously seek peace and provide Palestinians with a homeland without conditions exactly like America provided for Israel and with no expectation of remuneration because that is what “real good friends” are prone to do.
